Community
The Envoy development process is an open process. Here are the general communication channels we use to communicate.
Envoy works with the wider community to create a strong, vibrant codebase. There are a variety of projects and organizations built on top of Envoy. We will list them below in alphabetical order:
Open Source Projects Built on Envoy Proxy
Ambassador is an open source Kubernetes-native API Gateway built on Envoy, designed for microservices.
Cilium is open source software for providing and transparently securing network connectivity and loadbalancing between application workloads such as application containers or processes.
Cloud Foundry is the industry standard cloud application platform that abstracts away infrastructure so you can focus on app innovation.
The Consul Connect service mesh offers first-class support for using Envoy as a proxy
Contour is an Ingress controller for Kubernetes that works by deploying the Envoy proxy as a reverse proxy and load balancer. Unlike other Ingress controllers, Contour supports dynamic configuration updates out of the box while maintaining a lightweight profile.
Enroute Universal Gateway is an Open-Source Envoy powered Cloud-Native API Gateway created for Kubernetes Ingress and Standalone deployments
Gimbal is a layer 7 load balancing platform built on Kubernetes, the Envoy proxy, and Contour, a Kubernetes Ingress controller. It provides a scalable, multi-team, and API-driven ingress tier capable of routing Internet traffic to multiple upstream Kubernetes clusters and traditional infrastructure technologies such as OpenStack.
func-e makes running Envoy easy. func-e (pronounced funky) allows you to quickly see available versions of Envoy and try them out. This makes it easy to validate configuration you would use in production.
Gloo is an open-source function gateway built on top of the Envoy Proxy. Gloo provides a unified entry point for access to all services and serverless functions, translating from any interface spoken by a client to any interface spoken by a backend.
Istio is an open platform that provides a uniform way to connect, manage, and secure microservices. Istio embeds Envoy https://istio.io/docs/concepts/what-is-istio/overview.html#envoy
Kuma is a platform agnostic open-source control plane for Service Mesh and Microservices. It can run and be operated natively across both Kubernetes and VM environments, making it easy to adopt by every team in the organization.
Service Mesh Hub is a Kubernetes-native management plane that enables configuration and operational management of multiple heterogeneous service meshes across multiple clusters through a unified API.

Commercial Support and/or Offerings Built on Envoy Proxy
App Mesh is a service mesh from Amazon Web Services that allows you to easily monitor and control communication across microservice applications on AWS. App Mesh uses Envoy as its service proxy.
Datawire's open source toolkit empowers developers to adopt a cloud-native development workflow for Kubernetes services.
Grey Matter is a cloud-native, cloud agnostic intelligent service mesh pathway for enterprise transformation and cost control.
Instana is the Application Performance Management solution for modern dynamic applications, using automation and AI to manage their service quality.
Octarine delivers total visibility, easy policy management, and strong app security with seamless integration with systems such as Kubernetes, Istio, and Kafka to reduce security threats (ie data exfiltration), obtain compliance, and achieve simple, secure multi/hybrid-cloud.
Solo.io develops tools to help the enterprise adopt innovative cloud technologies and maximize their benefits.
Tetrate is an enterprise service mesh company, started by Istio founders, to manage the complexity of modern, hybrid cloud application infrastructure. Its flagship product, Tetrate Service Bridge, provides consistent, baked-in observability, runtime security and traffic management in any environment.
